I’m in a NEW Art Photography Group Exhibition at ARTDOC Photography Magazine

“DARTH PLAGUEIS, ALS #402”

I did have some good news: I’m in a Group Exhibition in ARTDOC Photography Magazine, titled, EXPERIMENTAL PHOTOGRAPHY, which opened on 19 August 2021.

I have two artworks in the exhibition: “DARTH PLAGUEIS”, and, “HECATOMB TO THE ALIEN OVERLORDS”. Both images are from my ABSTRACT LIGHT STREAKS (ALS) Photography Series, which now has 482 pieces in it, and spans a period from 2015 to the Present.

My Images are at the end of the exhibition page, and close out the exhibition of very interesting, and inspiring images. I’m very grateful to have been chosen to be in this exhibition, as my photography style is nearly 100% Experimental and Abstract.

Another reason I’m very thankful to be exhibited and published in ARTDOC Photography Magazine is because some photographer legends, and major photography inspirations and masters of the craft, such as Sabastiao Salgado, have their portfolios published in this magazine.

MENTAL NOTE #144: FRUSTRATIONS WITH ART SITES THAT SOUND ‘GREAT’, BUT ARE A NIGHTMARE TO NAVIGATE!

You know what I mean? Have you been there, done that? I have.

You spend your PRECIOUS TIME reading their terms, what benefits they promise member artists, and all of that jazz.

So….Being All excited, you sign up. Everything is good — no hiccups. GREAT! You can’t wait to upload your artwork and start earning mucho dinero like never before. RIGHT!

Then, you get to the point where you need to start uploading your art images. AND THAT’S WHEN THE NIGHTMARE BEGINS! FRUSTRATIONS START!

AFTER your 10th Cup of Coffee, and two hours have been lost from your “LIFE-CLOCK”, and your 101st “Mutha-fuûcķ’a!” You say, “Screw THIS!” (Or the expletive of your choice)

I’m not sure about you, but this happens to me, A LOT! (Or, sometimes….I wanted to be dramatic)

We all have a very limited time on this planet, and being an Artist/Art Photographer in these crazy-Ass times, is not easy: Nothing good was ever easy! Or is it, ‘Nothing Easy is Ever Good!’

☆ Add on to the deductions from your “Life-Clock”, the URGENCY IN LIFE INCREASES if you OWN A DISEASE that doctors say will likely reduce your life expectancy — I own ANKYLOSING SPONDYLITIS (AS). Doctors always remind patients like me (SPONDYs/AS’ers), of our mortality. Doctors say something like, “Nawfal, typically AS’ers die at a younger age, so you can expect to die soon,” or something similar to that.

My response is: “Hey Doc! Thanks a lot for reminding me….I guess I’ll be going back to therapy.”

NEVERTHELESS, I plan to stay as healthy as possible, anyway. BUT ONE THING I CAN’T STAND, is frustrating, time-wasting, Art-Selling membership websites that DO NOT WORK, or do not NAVIGATE easily, and which simply waste more of my extra-limited time from my Life-Clock!

I try new sites often, but usually abandon them quickly when they reveal themselves as being too FRUSTRATING!

Maybe some of you can relate to what I’m saying here.

☆ 5348 days can be converted to (approx.): 462,067,200 seconds! That’s a $hit-Ton of Seconds! HUNDREDS OF MILLIONS of SECONDS!

I guess I’m a Hard-Core Member, and in fact, I have been a member since they began.

MENTAL NOTE #142: SIMPLIFY YOUR COMPOSITIONS — SOMETIMES TOO MUCH IS TOO MUCH!

“All good drawing or painting is compositional.
Better see what you can do on your canvas with these simple notes and for the time being let all details go.
It is useless to keep on adding things to a canvas.
Some painters put thousands of big and little features into a face, colors and more colors.
All day long they keep adding more and more.
They are like whales in a sea with their mouths wide open swallowing everything that comes along.
Much can be done with little.” ~ ROBERT HENRI ~ Henri, Robert, and Margery A. Ryerson. The Art Spirit: Notes, Articles, Fragments of Letters and Talks to Students … Westview Press, 1984.

This is Great advice from Sage-Master Painter, ROBERT HENRI. I WISH I could say that I follow his advice all of the time, but I fail, often. I have quoted Robert Henri, more than any other artist. His advice for Art, and Life, is profound. If I could go back in time and apprentice, or study with any artist in history, I think I would travel back in time and study with Robert Henri — VERY CLOSE ALTERNATIVE CHOICES would be Whistler, Klimt, or Kandinsky.

The advice from Henri also works for PHOTOGRAPHY! Don’t clutter your photographs up with unnecessary items. Compose on your main topic of focus, and crop in-frame. Leave unnecessary items out or the frame that add nothing to your photo-story.

MENTAL NOTE #140, What You Want At What Cost

MENTAL NOTE #140: “You can get whatever you want in life, but at what cost? That’s been the story of my life”. ~ Jamie Thomas ~

Jamie Thomas : He is a Professional Skateboarder and Entrepreneur, but it didn’t come easily — Never does, usually. He and two friends went to California to become Pro Skateboarders, but he took hard knocks all the way to get to that dream. At one point early on, they were so broke, they were panhandling for change in San Francisco, and eating scraps of leftovers from a pizza joint. And at night, they would often sleep outside, sometimes in the bowl, at the skateboard park. I won’t go into his full story here, but the sacrifices he made for a long time, to first just get off the streets, and after time, to get skateboard sponsorships, and then starting businesses, was a journey of unending perseverance, total dedication, never giving up, and taking risks. This same core life philosophy can also be applied to whatever you are driven by in life.

Note 1: After doing the first art photo, I said to myself, “I’m seeing some faces from Brust’s novel in this image, and I need to investigate, and work this out further to see what develops.”

Note 2: One very interesting aspect of Brust’s story is that all of the angels were essentially good until a conflict and deception arose among the angels. On top of that, the three “evil” angels in the story ( evil according to many ‘modernised’ views…modern being several thousand years for Satan/Lucifer/Devil, and hundreds for Mephisto ) — Satan and Lucifer are the same entity, and Mephistopheles is the name invented for the historical Johann Georg Faust (c. 1480–c. 1540), and in demonology, Mephistopheles was “one of the seven chief devils and the tempter of Faust”. Nevertheless, in Brust’s story, Satan and Lucifer are “First-Borns”, and Mephistopheles is an archangel, not of the devils or demons, but he is Fallen.

Note 3: My Brust angels are a contradiction because they are made of fire. Angels, “fallen” or not, made of fire, I think is a contradiction.

Note 4: Sammael is a fallen archangel, and the Lord of Destruction. Some think this was Lucifer’s original name. The Jews think he is the archangel of the AMALEKITES (Gentiles) — Fine. Bring IT!

SERIES: NINE RED SCABBARDS ( 赤鞘九人男 ). Romanized: Akazaya Kunin Otoko, or, simply, “Akazaya Nine”.
YEAR: 2020 – 2021 (Completed).

DESCRIPTION:

The “Nine Red Scabbards” Abstract Light Streaks Photography Series, is, of course, a nine piece series depicting the Samurai and Ninja Retainers of Kozuki Oden, of the country of Wano, in the One Piece (Manga / Anime) World.
“Kozuki Oden was the daimyo of Kuri in Wano Country and the son of the former shogun Kozuki Sukiyaki, being a member of the Kozuki Family. He was the husband of Kozuki Toki and the father of Momonosuke and Hiyori. Additionally, he was the leader of a group of legendary and powerful samurai known as the Nine Red Scabbards, with all of them serving as his retainers and most trusted allies.”
Oden was also formerly the 2nd Division Commander of the White Beard Pirates.
When Oden returned to Wano, he was captured, and executed by his nemesis, Lord Orochi, and the Yonko, Kaido.
There was one traitor (double-agent) among the original Nine Red Scabbards, Kanjuro, [who] “later confronted his former comrades with an army at Onigashima’s back entrance. After mocking them and explaining Momonosuke’s escape attempt and how his execution was taking place, Kanjuro clashed with Kikunojo. He was then defeated [by Kikunojo] and left bleeding on the ground, and Kin’emon solemnly dropped his hat upon him in passing.”

Therefore, the traitor, Kanjuro, is not in this series—No Traitors Allowed! In his place is an honorary Scabbard, Izo.

MENTAL NOTE #125: FREEDOM — “Every thought should be uttered freely, fearlessly…”

I have been very troubled with the current and horrendous change in my country’s political environment, where a complete silence of Free Speech is in the process — that is — Free Speech will be silenced for ALL PEOPLE who oppose tyranny, and oppose the destruction of their country, to a new leader who loves his ‘Great New Reset’. T r u m p did nothing to stop this from happening; but under a Beiijing-Biiden admin, it is going to be worse, and you will see that unfold for yourself, very, very, soon.

Once again, I must turn our attention to the Sage, and the Great Master Painter, Robert Henri:

“It is better that every thought should be uttered freely, fearlessly, than that any great thought should be denied utterance for fear of evil. It is only through complete independence that all goodness can be spoken, that all purity can be found. Even indecency is bred of restriction not of freedom, for how can the spirit which controls the ethical side of life be trusted except through the poise that is gained by exercise? “LIGHT within SMOKE” is a series that contains elements of both Smoke-Art Photography and Light Streaks Photography. These artworks are complex. There are details within details. Many of the artwork titles are very descriptive because there is so much action going on in each piece, performed by odd combinations of colourful characters.
