This is a Serious Caution for all of my Blogging Friends, especially those who deal with Intellectual Property (e.g. images, music, audio, etc.)

MENTAL NOTE #128, ONE OF THE MOST DIFFICULT THINGS DEALING WITH A CONVERSION OF TIFF TO JPG, WHEN NEEDING AN APP, OR ONLINE CONVERTER, IS FINDING ONE THAT WORKS, OR ISN’T A MASSIVE DISADVANTAGE TO THE USER!

One of the biggest banes in my photographic existance, in modern times (exaggeration much), is the search for an App, or an Online File Conversion service, to Convert Tiff Files to JPEG format.

These services do exist, but MOST of the APPS DO NOT WORK; and of the Online Conversion Services, there may be some that do work, BUT BEWARE, READ THE DAMNED TERMS OF SERVICE! YOU WILL BE SHOCKED WHAT ‘RIGHTS OVER YOUR INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY’ SOME GRANT THEMSELVES, in return for them providing their so-called, service.

I want to WARN YOU to READ VERY CAREFULLY BEFORE USING one service, in particular, that I came across, because it seems to come up on the first page of search engine results when looking for the search terms, ‘online file conversion’ (or variations of that).

! I have no idea IF this service works or not, BECAUSE AFTER READING THEIR TOS, THERE IS NO WAY IN HELL THAT I WOULD EVER USE THEIR SERVICE, OR ANY OTHERS, WHO HAVE SIMILAR TOS BULLSHIT IN THEIR TOS !

Get a Load of this Shite’ola!

Under Paragraph 2, Sub-paragraph 3 – Service Description — Here is what RIGHTS they say they have IF you UPLOAD your PRIZED INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY, to their online file conversion service:

3) The Provider provides memory space to the Customer within the framework of its operational and technical possibilities and depending on the use of its services, in order to save files created by the Customer through uploading or by transferring a download link. For this purpose, the Customer grants the Provider a right of use of the file, unlimited by time or space.

DO YOU FULLY UNDERSTAND WHAT THAT SAYS?

! By uploading your Intellectual Property to their web servers, you “the Customer grants the Provider (online-convert), a right of use of the file, unlimited by time or space. (FOR ANY PURPOSE FOR ANY LENGTH OF TIME IN ANY PART OF THE UNIVERSE, BASICALLY!!!!!)

Sometimes, we feel desperate to find a useful service online when we are in a rush, or a desperate need, like in this case with File Conversion, and we fail to read the ‘Fine Print’, which in this instance, I feel would be a major disaster, for you, as the Intellectual Property Owner.

Next thing you know, they are using your photographs for Stock Photography and making money off of your hard work, that’s just a thought of what could be done with such a broad, far-reaching, and in-your-face, blatant disregard and NO respect for your hard-work and Intellectual Property, by vultures, who know that many people will never read their TOS.

The Internet is a Dangerous Place for Creatives who often need to upload their work files to the Web, to do ‘something’ with, but who fail to research what will, or could be done, with their intellectual property, once it is uploaded to a service.

My LAST Bit of Advice on This Topic: Read the TOS BEFORE Uploading Files to ANY online service!
